Russia Has Deployed Its BAL Coastal Missile System to Attack Ukrainian Ground Targets

Facing a Ukrainian counterattack, Russian troops have used the BAL coastal missile defense system to attack ground targets.

Deployment of BAL systems to neutralize ground targets and halt progressive Ukrainian counter-offensive in Bryansk Oblast.

This was disclosed by Deputy Head of the Main Operational Department of the General Staff of Ukraine Brigadier General Oleksii Hromov on June 15, 2023.

He mentioned that Russian troops had deployed the Kh-35 BAL coastal defense missile system to Bryansk Oblast.

The media suspects that the use of this weapon is due to Russian troops starting to lack precision ammunition to attack ground targets.
Regarding the BAL, it is a mobile coastal missile defense system that is actually designed to attack targets at sea at a range of up to 260 km.

The targets were various types of warships, including opposing ships engaged in amphibious landing operations.

As reported by Army Recognition (16/6), one of the salient features of the BAL system is its centralized fire control.

This innovative system provides optimal missile assignment, ensuring that each is deployed in the most efficient and effective manner.

The fire control system is capable of forming a spatiotemporal structure from massive salvos, enabling the targeting of multiple targets at once.

The BAL system, which uses an 8×8 military truck platform, carries eight surface-to-surface wheel tubes that have a speed of Mach 0.85.
